BIOSPHERE

'I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities.'  Nelson Mandela

The fashion collection Biosphere animates this ideal, and is represented through 5 different species. Each animal or insect was specifically chosen for its ability to relate with its fellow companions for the benefit of oneself and that of its society.

Young birds live with their parents in family groups for some time before trying to mate on their own, mostly to acquire parenting skills. Fish aggregate together to increase ease of communication among themselves. Honey bees communicate very well among themselves and develop excellent nest construction skills, division of labour and defense strategies. Monarch butterflies are known for the incredible mass migration to California and Mexico each winter.  Penguins live in groups mostly for warmth and comfort. They often huddle together to keep each other warm.

Same as these species, Homo sapiens belong to a society. They should also work hand in hand and make life easier for each other, yet hunger for power, money and personal success makes them lone hunters, always hungry for more. They tend to forget that each member of society has an important role to play.

A flutter of butterflies together with four other groups of species, colour our fabrics. Likewise, together we can colour the world. Every individual is equally important, every soul is vital to planet earth!
